Johnny Depp trial LIVE: Resumption of defamation battle with Amber Heard

The fourth week of the trial between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard gets underway this Monday, May 2, following a three-day pause between last Friday and Sunday.

In the first three weeks we have seen Depp give his account of events, while last week saw various witnesses close to Depp offer their opinions on the relationship between the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ star and Heard.

As the trial is now at its expected halfway point, it is thought that Heard will begin her testimony at some point this week. Today is likely to see the last of Depp‘s witnesses, as the judge looks to give each party equal time in the trial.

The reason behind the trial itself is down to a domestic abuse column that Heard wrote in the Washington Post in 2018 – even though she did not mention her ex-husband by name – as Depp filed a lawsuit against her for a sum of 50 million dollars. Heard then countersued for 100 million dollars.

Stay with us in our live blog for the Depp vs Heard trial as we look at some of the key moments so far and today’s update from the court in Fairfax, Virginia, as well as what lies ahead.
